Coldplay

Music Ally doesn’t cover many tour announcements, but Coldplay’s this morning has a couple of interesting angles. The band will play two nights at Hull’s Craven Park Stadium then six nights at London’s Wembley Stadium next August.

10% of the proceeds will be donated to charity the Music Venue Trust to support its work with grassroots venues. The promoters, venues and ticketing firms involved in the concerts will also be making donations.

This is Coldplay going above and beyond what even the Trust has been campaigning for – £1 from every ticket sold to stadium and arena shows.

“The band’s support really will stop venues closing, make tours happen and bring the joy of live music to thousands of people,” said CEO Mark Davyd.

Meanwhile, Coldplay are also continuing their sustainability drive, promising to power the Wembley shows with 100% solar, wind and kinetic energy.

The band are also using a postcode-based filtering system to try to ensure that 50% of the tickets for the Hull shows go to local fans.
