We covered the launch of independent music-streaming service Coda Music in September. Now it has made an interesting announcement about how it plans to deal with GenAI tracks uploaded to its platform.

The startup says that every artist joining its service will be “reviewed for AI origins” and then labelled as an ‘AI Artist’ if necessary. Coda has also added a feature for listeners to flag music they think might be GenAI but which hasn’t been labelled, and a toggle in its settings to filter GenAI tracks out of their stream.

Meanwhile, there is news of another streaming startup this week: Cantilever (pictured). Launching initially in the UK with an iPhone app, it charges £4.99 a month for a selection of 10 albums from its partner labels – who include Ninja Rune, Domino, Warp Records and Beggars Group. Long-form journalism and artist interviews are included, as well as user-centric payouts based on what people listen to from the selection.

Every month, 10 more albums will be rotated in. “Assuming equal consumption across content, if Cantilever achieves just 10K subscribers, each album will be earning the equivalent of over 1 million Spotify streams,” claimed the company in its launch announcement.
