In the first half of this year, a mere two tracks from Bollywood films released in 2025 reached the top ten of Spotify India’s Top Songs chart. In the first four weeks of July, six more such tunes have joined the list—and they’re all from the same movie, the romantic drama Saiyaara, the title track of which has broken a significant record.
‘Saiyaara’—composed by Tanishk Bagchi, sung by Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami with lyrics by Irshad Kamil—has become the first Indian song to reach the top five of Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart, on the strength of its record-breaking daily and weekly streams within India. Domestically, it has tallied all-time highs of 4,455,302 plays on July 23, five days after the film’s release on July 18, and 25,587,567 listens for the week ended July 24. These have obliterated the earlier marks set by ‘Chaleya’ from Jawan, which amassed 14,906,506 streams over a week in September 2023.
The numbers for ‘Saiyaara’ have powered it to No.4 and No.7 on Spotify’s daily and weekly Global chart respectively, with over 90% of its plays originating within India where it’s doing equally well across all DSPs. Most of the multi-composer OST’s seven tracks currently blanket the upper regions of the surveys on Amazon Prime Music, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Spotify and YouTube for the country.
Saiyaara’s success is notable because over the past five years, Bollywood has largely been bereft of hit romantic films, which typically generate smash love songs. Its box-office haul of Rs400 crore ($46 million approximately) so far has already made it the second highest-grossing Indian movie of 2025, while its soundtrack—which is out on production house Yash Raj Films’ own label YRF Music—has brought Hindi movie music back to the top of the charts.
Among the early beneficiaries of Saiyaara’s remarkable run is Abdullah. The singer-songwriter has just signed a non-exclusive deal with T-Series for a range of projects that will span film songs as well as pop singles, EPs and albums. Prior to ‘Saiyaara’, he was best known for ‘Ishq’, the lead track from his debut album Lost;Found, which was released via Artiste First.
That hit has been lodged in the top ten of Spotify’s India Songs chart since the middle of August 2024, tallying over 330 million plays on the platform alone. With his latest single ‘Ehsaas’ and album cut ‘Sajde’ also climbing into last week’s top 15, Abdullah is currently ranked No.312 in the world on the DSP.
