Given everything going on around AI right now, it’s hardly a neck-sticking-out prediction to say that conversation is going to be the next big leap for the way people use music services. Spotify’s latest announcement offers more evidence.
Pitched as “a more personal way to ask, discover and listen” it involves people typing OR talking to Spotify’s mobile app to shape what they’re listening to.
“Ask Spotify to ”Play some artists I haven’t heard before,’ then keep shaping the vibe with as much or as little direction as you want. You can say, ‘Add some Bad Bunny,’ and then ask to narrow it to ‘just his recent stuff,’ or ‘make it more upbeat.’ were some of the use cases outlined by Spotify.
It is also encouraging people to ask for more context around what’s playing: “What is the inspiration behind… when was this album released… what genre is this?” and more.
For now, these features are rolling out “gradually” in beta for premium subscribers in the US, Ireland and Sweden, for English-language questions only.
TechCrunch reported that Spotify is using “a mix of its own AI technology and models from multiple providers, based on whatever is best for the task” for this.
